Clients generally seek an advisor who is experienced and knowledgeable, one who can help the client make, or even act independently to make in the client's best interest, a difficult financial, tax or other personal decision.  To be the advisor clients seek out and trust, Marv has affiliated with well known and respected institutions, diligently researches and completes professional education courses (Certified Financial Planner level and Enrolled Agent compliant) and regularly attends industry events, seminars and workshops.

Marv opened North Georgia Tax Solutions in August 2005 after careful consideration of two franchised tax preparation opportunities - Liberty Tax Service and Jackson Hewitt.  He reasoned as a sole practitioner he would have total control of the manner and means by which his company would serve clients.  There was an obvious trade off in advertising, standardization of practices and heavy-duty reporting to a centralized organization.  On the positive side were flexibility in service offerings and lower operating cost that could be passed on to the client in the way of relatively inexpensive fee structure. He chose the independent practitioner route.

Clients will make their choice of advisors on several factors. Three main factors are:  Is the advisor knowledgeable in my area of concern?  Can I trust the advisor? What will it cost?

Tax preparation and IRS representation fees are based on the publication 2007-2008 NSA Income & Fees of Accountants & Tax Prepares in Public Practice. Fees for this office are based on the specific region of the country (South Atlantic) and further down to "rural" for the type of practice (LLC) where these categories are defined.  Bottom-line results are further reduced for returning clients and individual circumstances.  You can order this publication from the National Association of Accountants (www.nsacct.org) or review its contents at the NGTS office.

In 1967 he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Accounting. Following graduation he married Darlene, managed materials on a pipeline project, spent four years in the Air Force (Vietnam tour), then twenty-seven years with Airborne Express where he retired as VP-Division III - a billion dollar operation where he was responsible for one third of the company's domestic services plus the Caribbean. At Airborne Express, Marv contracted with hundreds of small business owners with revenues from $50,000 to $20.0 million. This experience translates into a deep understanding and respect for how small entrepreneurs work. He continues his professional education by both classroom and Internet studies to stay current on tax code, financial planning and industry changes.

Recent interests outside the tax and financial planning industry included Boys and Girls Club of America (past director and VP-Finance, North Georgia Boys & Girls Club), Community Thrift Store (Volunteer Cashier), church finance committee, mentor at Tate Elementary School and past chairman of Big Canoe's Community Council.

Marvin and Darlene reside in the Horizon Peaks neighborhood of Great Sky in Canton, Georgia.
